I used to come home from amazing photography locations with hundreds of images, but nothing worth keeping

Once I captured the most obvious composition, I just couldn’t see the next shot.

So every other photo would just be a slight adjustment this way, or that way. A tiny tweak. A new set of bracketed exposures.

Or if I was feeling adventurous, I’d turn the camera on a right angle to take a portrait oriented shot.

But at the end of the day, maybe I’d have one keeper.

None of the rest were worth doing anything with.

And if the conditions were anything less than perfect – none of them would be keepers because I always used to depend on a stunning sunrise or sunset to make a photo interesting.

Here's Why:

The problem wasn’t my camera.

It wasn’t the light.

And it definitely wasn’t the location.

The real problem was this:

I didn’t have a way to SEE the photos that were already there

Because great landscape photographers aren’t just finding photos…

They’re constructing them.

Then I noticed something...

During lockdown a few years ago, I suddenly had a lot more time on my hands.

So I decided to do something I’d always wanted to do - I started interviewing some of my favourite landscape photographers from around the world.

That year I spoke with 25 photographers whose work I really admire.

And as we talked about how they approach a location, something interesting started to emerge.

They weren’t just wandering around waiting for a photo to reveal itself.

They were systematically breaking the scene into smaller visual pieces.

Each piece could become its own photograph.

Almost like building something… one brick at a time.

That realisation eventually became what I now call:

The Story Bricks Method

It’s how I can turn up to locations that 99% of people would walk straight past, under the harsh midday sun…

…and still come away with a whole collection of compelling photos.

The Story Bricks Method works by helping you identify what I call “Story Bricks.”

A Story Brick is a specific visual element in the landscape that instantly tells the viewer: “This is where I am.”

It might be a distinctive object…

A weathered texture…

A small natural feature…

Or something that simply captures the feeling of that location.

Individually, each of these elements can become a powerful photograph.

But when you capture several of them together, they start to build something bigger…

The story of the place itself.

So instead of wandering around waiting for a composition to magically appear…

You begin to spot the bricks that are already there — hiding in plain sight.

For example, I might turn up to a scene like this:

Most photographers would glance at this and keep walking.

But once you know how to spot the Story Bricks, that same boring location can produce images like these:

What Happens When the Location Is Great, But the Light Sucks?

Here’s something else interesting.

Most photographers believe great landscape photos depend on perfect conditions.

Golden sunrise. Fiery sunset. Dramatic light.

And when those conditions don’t appear…

... the entire shoot feels like a disappointment.

You’ve probably experienced this yourself.

You travel somewhere amazing, cross your fingers and hope for stunning light...

...but the light just doesn't happen.

So you leave feeling like the trip was a waste.

But when you use the Story Bricks Method, something surprising happens.

Even when the light is completely flat, you can still find images that capture the character of the place.

For example, here’s a location most photographers would agree is pretty fantastic...

But on this particular day - the sunset just didn't kick off.

Many photographers would take a couple of shots of the "epic vista", then pack up and go home.

But when you start spotting the Story Bricks within the scene…

you can still create photos like these:

The reason is simple.

The Story Bricks Method doesn’t rely on waiting for dramatic conditions.

It works by helping you see the visual elements that already define the location.

Which means even when the light isn’t perfect…

there are still powerful images waiting to be captured.

The Story Bricks Method gives you a simple mental step-by-step process for spotting these elements almost anywhere.

Which means it becomes very difficult to leave a location without coming home with a collection of varied and interesting photos.

And the best part?

It works whether your creative juices are flowing or not.

A while ago I was talking with Kenneth, a photographer from Scotland who told me:
“arriving on location, you know a photograph is here, you can see other photographers getting great images from this spot, but today you just can’t see it…

Some days the creative juices are there, some days they’re not

I taught the Story Bricks Method to Kenneth recently and challenged him to use it to capture some new photos, then show me 5 of the best ones in my Inner Circle forum…

Here’s what he told me after his first time using the method:

"I came home with a lot"

Michael said a similar thing when I taught him the method too:

And so did Lou:

And John was finding compositions he'd driven past and ignored for years:

This is what happens when you use the story bricks method

You come home from shoots with more great photos than you're used to...
And do you want to know the kicker?

They weren’t off photographing some world heritage mountain range…

I specifically challenged them to pick a regular location close to home, just to see how well the story bricks method works.

Why does the Story Bricks method practically force you to come home with more keepers from every shoot?

The old way of taking landscape photos is to just turn up to somewhere amazing, wait for the light to be perfect, line up your composition according to one of the “Rules” – and click the shutter.

The problem is it’s a passive way of taking photos. Just waiting for the photo to reveal itself.

It’s possible to get lucky and for everything to just come together perfectly as if by magic…

But going out 10 or 20 times hoping to get lucky just once with a portfolio level photo just ends up getting you down.

You end up with a constant sense of frustration and disappointment that you’re not able to see what’s right there in front of you and capture it.

Not only do you get so little output for all your efforts…

The old way of shooting actually harms your photography

Because when you’re taking lots of great shots all the time, you learn something from every single one.

And when you’re learning, enjoying yourself, and producing great work, it makes you MORE enthusiastic to get out there and keep doing it.

But coming home from shoots always disappointed kills your enthusiasm…

So you feel less inclined to go out on that next shoot…

Until you eventually hit that point all of us have been at some point where…

You’ve lost your mojo.

And when you lose your mojo, it totally halts your growth as a photographer.

But that ends today when you discover the Story Bricks Method

It’s a system for seeing shots you’ve never spotted before, where each one is a compelling photo in its own right, but together they’re like bricks that build the full story of a location one piece at a time.

So you won’t just come home with more keepers from every shoot than ever before…

You’ll come home with a body of work.

Introducing...

The Story Bricks Method

A short video course that teaches you the "Story Bricks Method" system for always seeing the shot in any location.
Learn the entire step-by-step system in under an hour
Use it on your very next photo shoot and come home with 5-10x more keepers than you're used to
Learn to tell the story of a location with your photos, one story-brick image at a time

This is NOT "just another course" about composition...

You might be wondering if this is just about rules of composition, like the rule of thirds or some others that you’ve maybe not heard of…

So let me reassure you this goes way beyond what any compositional rule teaches you.

Because they just show you how to line things up within a frame…

But they don’t teach you how to know what to photograph

The Story Bricks Method teaches you how to know WHAT to photograph

 Think about this...

You've probably spent at least a few thousand $$$ on all your camera gear.

And every time you come home with a memory card full of throwaway shots, that expensive gear is not earning its keep.

Or how about your next photography trip?

Flights, accommodation, car hire... Maybe even a new lens before you go.

It’s very easy to spend thousands of dollars on a single photography trip.

And yet many photographers come home with only a handful of photos they’re really proud of.

What would it be worth if that same trip produced 10 times more portfolio-worthy images?

What would it be worth to come home with an entire body of work instead of just one lucky shot?

You might expect a system like this to cost hundreds of dollars.

The last time I taught the Story Bricks Method live, it was part of a $200 workshop.

But today you can get access to the entire method for just $19.

Less than the cost of a memory card.

And something that will improve every photo shoot you ever do from this point forward.

So if you're a landscape photographer who - starting today - wants to come home with five to ten times more keepers from every shoot then click the big button below, and grab the story bricks method.

You’ll be watching it within minutes, and bringing home 5-10x more keepers than usual on your very next shoot.
